{"id":662,"date":"2016-04-01T16:58:46","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T20:58:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.andrewklusman.com\/blog\/?p=662"},"modified":"2016-03-20T17:08:34","modified_gmt":"2016-03-20T21:08:34","slug":"prayer-before-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.andrewklusman.com\/blog\/prayer-before-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Prayer before work"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As I&#8217;ve mentioned before on this blog, Catholics love to sanctify pretty much everything. \u00a0As a Western Province Dominican recently wrote, &#8220;Blessing is a way of claiming something for God&#8217;s kingdom. All things should be blessed.&#8221; \u00a0I think it is fair to extrapolate that out to everything we do should be done for the kingdom of God, and sanctifying that which we were created to do (work) is a great good.<\/p>\n<p>The Catholic Gentleman recently wrote on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicgentleman.net\/2016\/03\/a-prayer-to-st-joseph-before-work\/\">prayer before work<\/a>, in particular, invoking St. Joseph, that patron of workers:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Work isn\u2019t a curse, it is ordained by God and is a holy duty.\u00a0Our heavenly Father\u00a0himself taught us how to work and rest, and even in Paradise, where there was no pain or sorrow, our first parents\u00a0worked joyfully, tending the earth and keeping it.<\/p>\n<p>St. Joseph,\u00a0the Guardian of our Redeemer, also\u00a0worked with his hands and taught the child Jesus his craft of carpentry. Indeed, St. Joseph teaches us that working silently for Jesus and Mary is the highest calling of every man.
