Mother of Perpetual Help

Picked this up in a book that I got off eBay.  It is from the time when parish missions were a bit more popular than they are nowadays.  I attended a parish mission a year or two ago, and it wasn’t quite my cup of tea (nor was it really aimed at “me” per se, but seemed rather at re-Catholicizing lukewarm/uneducated Catholics).

However, this card is a good reference point for the basics of our spiritual life.  That is, I think, something that makes this card necessary in our day.  Folks have become so busy with non-religious things that, oftentimes, religion gets pushed to the background.  But, the religious life is a daily struggle, one that must be won over every day, until death.  Saints don’t just happen because they were born saintly.  This card is a good reminder of our daily minimum, and is slightly similar to what Fr. Larry Richards says – “No Bible, no breakfast.  No Bible, no bed.”
